We are in for an exciting ride! I’m so giddy with excitement about this post and I hope after reading this; depression will be so far away from us all! Depression is a mental health disorder that has crawled into our society and most of us don’t know what to do with it. A typical Nigerian sees depression as a “white-man’s” luxurious disease, but we can’t keep drawing assumptions or ignoring it because people are losing their lives daily to depression. An estimate of 350 million people are affected by depression globally, it is the most common illness worldwide and the leading cause of disability according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

It is not a bad/sad mood people experience in their normal lives, though its cause isn’t fully understood, it could be as a result of a combination of various factors like biological (change in neurotransmitter levels), environmental, physical and social.

Symptoms are;

Insomnia

fatigue

loss of energy

feelings of worthlessness

Endorphins are chemicals our body releases when we engage in physical activity; exercise, they communicate with the receptors in the brain that diminishes the perception of pain. “Not again!” you may cry out, “but it’s okay…exercise can be fun!”

Aerobic exercise is also a medication for depression, it raises high endorphins level which stimulates the neurotransmitters, neropinephine which is connected to mood. If you don’t have enough energy to put in for this exchange, never mind; De-Deon’s syrup of Haemoglobin Vitamin B12 is the perfect companion to win this fight with! Boost your immune system, get the adrenaline pumping hard, deal with the exhaustion, get into the ring, put on your headgear and guards then let the kicking begin!

A wealthy person guards his house diligently not necessarily because he has been robbed before, but because of all his possessions in need of protection, same goes for depression; don’t give any room for it to creep in, make a conscious effort to work-out often, be on your guard…you have so much to live for!
